• Cross means a bit angry. you can also say he´s annoyed. if you´re bad tempered, you get cross wth people all the time.

• This means my disagreement with the traffic warden was quite serious.  Maybe we even shouted at each other. Not a good idea!

When you want someone to be quiet, and you´re feeling cross, you can say shut up. but be careful who you say it to.  It´s ok  to say it to kids and  English Teachers, but not to traffic wardens!
